Absolute Contraindications

  • Eyes: The laser beam must never be aimed at the eyes, and appropriate protective eyewear is required for everyone in the treatment area to prevent serious internal eye damage. 
  • Pregnancy: Treatment is contraindicated over the developing fetus. 
  • Malignancy: Avoid treating areas of known or suspected cancer.


Relative Contraindications

  • Photosensitivity: Patients taking photosensitizing medications or those with conditions that increase light sensitivity should avoid treatment. 
  • Hemorrhage: Be cautious with patients on blood thinners or with active bleeding, as the therapy could potentially worsen a hemorrhage. 
  • Pacemaker: Avoid treating over areas near the heart if the patient has a pacemaker.
  • Tanning: Recently tanned skin increases the risk of burns and pigmentation changes. 
  • Epilepsy: Patients with seizure disorders should be treated with extreme caution, as certain light frequencies could trigger a seizure. 
  • Thyroid Gland: Do not treat directly over a hyperactive thyroid gland. 
  • Growth Plates: Caution is advised when treating over areas of bone growth centers. 
  • Hemorrhagic Conditions: Patients with a tendency toward heavy bleeding should be evaluated carefully.
